Apache is a stunningly gorgeous 4yr 17h and growing percheron/friesian draft cross gelding. When horse shoppers tell you this one is just maybe too quiet for hunting it is saying something. I am not sure there is such a thing as too quiet especially in the hunt field when the atmosphere adds energy to them all but this is a very naturally quiet type of horse.
We bought Apache directly from his breeder unstarted. We have put a lovely start on him. He is nicely going in the ring w/t/c, riding in the fields, has popped over some small jumps and been traveling off the farm to trail ride all within his first 30 days of being under tack so I guess you could just say he is that quiet and easy. Some horses are just born that way and he is one that falls into that category. He has never offered to put a foot wrong on the property or off the property. He navigates bridges, water, traffic, tough terrain, leads the group or happily goes in the back. He will gallop along with the best of them but is happy to just walk along on a loose rein. He rides english and western. He has been ridden by all different riders.
I have heard comments such as he is a bit "drafty" but honestly I am not sure I really agree with that to be more than honest. This horse is quite fancy and he is just finding his balance/forward button. You can see in this last rid with Ava guiding him he really is starting to soften over his back and carry himself. I sometimes am not sure what people expect of a big young horse but this all takes time and you can't rush the process. There is quite fancy horse in there and I think he is a very nice mover. No, he isn't a TB by any stretch but he can keep up with the best of them galloping down the trails. I think he is quite fancy on the flat and there is a lot more to come. He can really sit down and boy does he just make a gorgeous shape in his body.
He is sound, no injuries, no vices, barefoot and easy keeper. He is just super easy in the barn, turnout, etc. He loads/ties/great for baths/etc. Just a very sweet personable horse.
I think this is one that will just continue to impress as he moves along in his training. His brain is unbeatable and these types tend to just come along quickly/easily because they are so darn trainable.
